ARTIST LECTURE: CHIE FUEKI
2013 KSA Visiting Artist Lecture: Chie Fueki
Chie Fueki’s intricate and colorful paintings incorporate images from diverse cultures and customs, including motifs from traditional Japanese art, Renaissance paintings, and images of American athletes and team sports. Folk art, textiles, and patterning are also strong visual influences in her work. Fueki works in a variety of media and techniques to create her paintings — including layers of collage, colored pencil, paint washes and beads of paint — to create a dazzling, brocade-like surface. Fueki has exhibited her work around the country and abroad. She is represented by Mary Boone Gallery in New York and Shoshana Wayne Gallery in Los Angeles.
