Lily Yeh is a global artist who is fueled by a belief that art is a human right, and that artists can create a foundation for profound social change. Ms.Yeh served as the co-founder, executive director, and lead artist of The Village of Arts and Humanities, a non-profit organization based in Philadelphia, with the mission to build community through art, learning, land transformation and economic development. Ms.Yeh developed a unique methodology for using the arts as a tool for community building and personal transformation during her tenure at The Village. Founding Barefoot Artists in 2002, Lily Yeh now works internationally on projects in places including Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana, Ecuador, and China. Following her lecture, Ms.Yeh will sign copies of her book, Awakening Creativity, in which Yeh facilitates the art-making process for students of The Dandelion School, the only nonprofit organization in Beijing that serves the children of poor migrant workers coming from 24 provinces.
Presented by SYNAPSE, a local organization focused on giving youth a voice in the conditions of their communities through art, story, and civic engagement, the Center for Neighborhoods and Kentucky School of Art. In cooperation with District 1 Louisville Metro Councilwoman, Attica Scott.
